Consequently, reduced expression of NLRP3, IL-1β, and IL-18 was observed in conjunctival tissue samples of BAC + MSC-Exos–treated animals compared to BAC-treated mice, indicating that the MSC-Exos–mediated inhibition of NLRP3 inflammasome in eye-infiltrated immune cells was mainly responsible for the beneficial effects of MSC-Exos in DED treatment [28].
