Secretion of IL‐1β and IL‐18 and upregulation of IL18 by the keratinocytes was consistent with activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome in response to infection or other stressors, as well as its role in stimulating innate immune responses.[27, 28, 29] However, we also observed early secretion of IL1‐RA and down regulation of genes associated with inflammation and infection (CXCL1 and CXCL8) in the keratinocytes, alongside upregulation of protein processing and metabolic pathways. The gene discussed is IL1A; the disease is infection.
