VEGFA and retinopathy of prematurity: Subsequently, the Early Treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ETROP) study in 1999 introduced laser photocoagulation for pre-threshold disease, whereas succeeding studies, such as the Bevacizumab Eliminates the Angiogenic Threat of Retinopathy of Prematurity (BEATROP) study in 2008, the RAINBOW in 2016, and the FIREFLEYE and BUTTERFLEYE studies in 2019, explored the treatment with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents and their optimal dosage in ROP [8-13].
