CD177 and hemopericardium: While some studies have described anemia, hemopericardium, and jaundice as a severe and frequent findings in PRV infections in Pacific salmon species in field conditions [4, 42], experimental studies have demonstrated that there does not appear to be marked lysis of PRV-1 infected erythrocytes in Atlantic or Pacific salmon [41, 43, 44], indicating there is complexity in how PRV-1 contributes to anemic and/or inflammatory conditions.
