Our findings that ARO gene and protein expression in SAT were higher in men with obesity compared to nonobese individuals, and positively correlated with obesity markers such as BMI, body fat percentage, and WHR, align with previous studies showing a positive association between BMI and increased ARO gene expression in SAT (28, 29). The gene discussed is CYP19A1; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
