Meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies has suggested an association between non-syndromic variants in POLG and the age of menopause (Stolk et al., 2012), while other studies have found autosomal dominant POLG mutations associating with premature ovarian failure (Pagnamenta et al., 2006) and with male infertility (Rovio et al., 2001; Jensen et al., 2004). This evidence concerns the gene POLG and primary ovarian failure.
