Receptors from the TIM and TAM families (hepatitis A virus cellular receptor 1 [HAVCR1], T cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain containing 4 [TIMD4], MER proto-oncogene, tyrosine kinase [MERTK], TYRO3 protein tyrosine kinase [TYRO3], and AXL receptor tyrosine kinase [AXL]) recognize this marker, facilitating the removal of apoptotic cells and regulating inflammation, particularly in cancer and autoimmune diseases (Fadok et al., 2000; Serrano-Heras et al., 2020; Yu et al., 2023; Kur and Weigert, 2024; Lica et al., 2024). Here, AXL is linked to autoimmune disease.
