COMT and Parkinson disease: Auxiliary medications, including catechol-O-methyltransferase inhibitors (e.g., opicapone) to reduce levodopa metabolism, anticholinergics (e.g., benztropine) to inhibit the cholinergic system, and monoamine oxidase B inhibitors (e.g., selegiline) to decrease dopamine degradation, collectively constitute the pharmacological regimen for comprehensive treatment of Parkinson’s disease (Vijiaratnam et al., 2021).
