Plasma galectin-9 has gained particular interest over the past decade for its use as a biomarker in association with viral infections such as HIV, dengue, hepatitis B & C, influenza, human cytomegalovirus, chikungunya fever, coronavirus, as well as parasitic and bacterial infections such as malaria, leptospirosis, and tuberculosis [10, 11]. This evidence concerns the gene LGALS9 and dengue disease.
