Specifically, helminth infection appears to dampen the efficacy of Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccination, an attenuated strain of Mycobacterium bovis, and helminth infection can reduce mycobacterial-induced IFN-γ production in Bangladeshi children and pregnant Ethiopian mothers (Cadmus et al., 2020; Bhengu et al., 2022).
