Several Parkinson’s disease risk genes, including PINK1, Parkin, and VPS13C, have been linked to the stimulator of interferon genes (STING) signaling pathway that functions as part of an innate immune response downstream of the sensing of cytoplasmic DNA by cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS) (Diner et al., 2013; Hancock-Cerutti et al., 2022; Moehlman et al., 2023; Sliter et al., 2018; Wu et al., 2013). The gene discussed is CGAS; the disease is Parkinson disease.
