A few adipose gene expressions were found to be significant: those with MASLD had significantly higher expression of adipose peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARg), which increases adipose tissue fat storage capacity [25], and those with MASH had significantly lower expression of adipose S100a8, a calcium-binding protein which is involved in modulating inflammatory response [26], compared to NLO (Supplementary Table S4). The gene discussed is S100A8; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
