The Joint British Diabetes Societies for Inpatient Care group has recommended a blood glucose target range of 6.0–10.0 mmol/L for most inpatients with hyperglycaemia, with an acceptable range of 4.0–12.0 mmol/L, with modification of lower acceptable glucose according to whether a patient is prescribed insulin or insulin secretagogues.2 This evidence concerns the gene INS and diabetes mellitus.
