CLDN5 and ischemic stroke: Our analysis revealed no significant difference between the treatment groups in CLDN5 immunofluorescent signal in vessels in the ischemic area at 3 hpi (Supplemental Figure 1, E–H), which is in line with the current literature suggesting that the first wave of BBB breakdown in ischemic stroke is driven by increased transendothelial transport and not the result of increased paracellular permeability due to TJ disassembly (28, 29).
