Sex hormones have been suspected in the pathogenesis of meningiomas because of higher incidence among women, (Klaeboe et al., 2005; Wiemels et al., 2010a), accelerated growth during pregnancy (Kerschbaumer et al., 2015; Lusis et al., 2012; Dumitrescu et al., 2014), increased risk in patients with breast cancer (Lopez-Rivera et al., 2020; Miller, 1986), presence of hormone receptors in meningiomas (Agopiantz et al., 2023) and increased risk of meningioma in men treated with antiandrogens (Weill et al., 2021). The gene discussed is NR4A1; the disease is meningioma.
