One mechanism that leads to improved DNA repair capacities in cancer cells is the activation of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signaling pathway.18–20 For instance, the combination of platinum drugs with EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) has shown strong synergistic activities not only in preclinical models21–24 but also in clinical studies.25–29 Moreover, there are some platinum complexes in literature containing EGFR-TKIs (e.g., erlotinib and gefitinib) as axial ligands.30,31. This evidence concerns the gene EGFR and cancer.
