Furthermore, the role of epigenetics in atherosclerosis is supported by the role of epigenetic mediators G9a, SUV39H1, and Set7 in regulating the gene expression of IL-6, IL-12p40, MIP-1α, MIP-1β, NF-κB p65, HOXA, FOXO, KLF4, IRF8, TNFα, IL-18, MCP-1, MMP9, MMP2, CD36, SR-A, and IRF8, and these interactions are involved with altered expression during the process of atherosclerosis, suggesting the role of epigenetics in atherosclerosis [66].
