MAPT and Alzheimer disease: AD is the leading cause of dementia,affecting millions of peopleworldwide with a substantial societal and economic burden.13 The pathological hallmarks of AD include accumulationof amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaques and neurofibrillary tangles composedof phosphorylated tau proteins, which lead to synaptic dysfunctionand neuronal loss.13 Consequently, disease-modulatingstrategies have historically focused on targeting these peptides.Conversely, the involvement of other molecules, such as lipids and N-glycans, has received less attention.
