The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) family is integral to the growth and development of normal tissues but is frequently overexpressed in pancreatic cancer, where the enhanced autophosphorylation of EGFR drives key oncogenic pathways, such as RAS Proto-Oncogene, GTPase (RAS) -Raf1 Proto-Oncogene (RAF)- mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT). This evidence concerns the gene AKT1 and familial pancreatic carcinoma.
