The activation of these CRH neurons by 5-HT2C receptor signaling in turn enhances anxiety and fear responses by (1) activating inhibitory, putatively GABAergic projection neurons that project to the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and lateral hypothalamus (LH); and (2) the inhibition of intra-BNST, putatively anxiolytic and stress-buffering, CRH neurons that also project to the VTA/LH. This evidence concerns the gene CRH and Anxiety.
