Two important facts are worth to mention on the Keap1/Nrf2/HO-1 signaling axis participation in the autophagy process activated by H. pylori in human gastric adenocarcinoma (HGA) that allows oxidative stress-damaged epithelial cells to be eliminated (70): 1) There was a nuclear translocation of Nrf2 upon co-incubation of HGA cells with H. pylori for a period of 3 h and 2) Nrf2 induced the expression of HO-1 whose byproduct is carbon monoxide (CO), a molecule considered antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Here, HMOX1 is linked to gastric adenocarcinoma.
