Thus far, targeting Galectin-3 has shown promise for antiviral therapy (18), and Galectin-3-targeting drugs are now being evaluated in both malignant (bladder and colorectal cancer, multiple myeloma, B cell lymphoma, melanoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, non-small cell lung cancer) and non-malignant (fibrosis, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, psoriasis) conditions (25). Here, LGALS3 is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
