Shi et al. found that sesamin up-regulates the levels of proteins related to fatty acid oxidation, cholesterol efflux, and lipid metabolism via activating the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) signaling pathways, thereby reducing intracellular lipid accumulation during NAFLD (14). Here, PPARA is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
