PROS1 and Sepsis: This amino acid has several functions in the immune system, notably in the synthesis of acute phase proteins (Leonardi & Comolli, 1995) as there is a large increase in acute phase proteins during sepsis (Pierrakos & Vincent, 2010; Ron‐Harel et al., 2019), it is likely that alanine is also being utilized for the production of acute‐phase proteins, although further investigation in this area is warranted.
