The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) latent gene Epstein–Barr nuclear antigen 1 (EBNA1) can prevent ferroptosis via activating the Keap1-NRF2 signaling pathway to upregulate the expression of solute carrier family 7 member 11 (SLC7A11) and glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) thereby promoting chemoresistance and tumor progression in nasopharyngeal carcinoma [18,19]. The gene discussed is GPX4; the disease is nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
