In the phase 3 randomized trial of gefitinib versus chemotherapy in the management of metastatic EGFR mutated lung cancer, patients randomized to the gefitinib arm had a median progression-free survival (PFS) of 10.8 months, and patients randomized to the chemotherapy arm had a median PFS of only 5.4 months demonstrating the superiority of gefitinib to chemotherapy in the management of metastatic EGFR mutated lung cancer [14]. The gene discussed is EGFR; the disease is lung carcinoma.
