In a subtype of ALS called Glia, there is a significant increase in HLA-DOA gene expression in comparison to controls, frontotemporal dementia, and the two other subtypes of ALS OX (oxidative stress dysregulation) and TD (dysregulation of transcription) (Eshima et al., 2023). This evidence concerns the gene HLA-DOA and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
