When we quantified dopamine levels in the striatum of AAV-hsyn-treated PD mice using HPLC, we observed a 2.5-fold increase in striatal dopamine, suggesting that induction of TH expression in striatal neurons might establish a basal tone of extracellular dopamine despite the absence of striatal DA projections, akin to pharmacological replenishment in PD patients (Poewe et al., 2017). This evidence concerns the gene RIC8B and Parkinson disease.
