Previous works support this notion as lipids and glycolytic metabolism in Cn are essential for infection, given that deleting the acetyl-CoA synthetase gene Acs1 and deletion of critical glycolytic enzymes pyruvate kinase (pyk1) and hexose kinases I and II (hxk1/hxk2) leads to virulence defects in Cn pulmonary and brain infection (66, 67).
