Giles et al. conducted a randomized control trial to assess the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients with RA treated with tocilizumab compared to those treated with TNF inhibitor etanercept and found that the estimated HR for the occurrence of MACE in the tocilizumab group relative to the etanercept group was 1.05 (95% CI: 0.77-1.43); they concluded that there is an increased risk for the occurrence of MACE with tocilizumab compared to etanercept [32]. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is rheumatoid arthritis.
