A study using the middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model demonstrated that transgenic mice expressing the phosphorylated (S1179D) form of eNOS displayed enhanced vascular reactivity, reduced occurrence of severe stroke, and improved CBF compared to mice expressing the non-phosphorylated (S1179A) form of eNOS (Atochin et al. 2007). The gene discussed is NOS3; the disease is stroke disorder.
