APOA4 and fatty liver disease: Since nuclear TFEB localization in PTECs decreases with age and renal dysfunction, and the prevalence of hepatic steatosis is high in patients with CKD (20, 78), decreased nuclear TFEB localization in PTECs may lead to APOA4 amyloidosis in the elderly due to increased hepatic APOA4 synthesis and decreased APOA4 degradation, as in aged Tfebfl/fl KAP mice.
