Our study suggests that inhibition of SLC7A11 using erastin can potentially be an effective treatment strategy to prevent the development of human lung tumors with both ELF3 overexpression and the downregulated or mutated PTEN. Of note, PRLX93936, an analog of erastin, synergizes with Cisplatin to induce ferroptosis in non-small cell lung cancer cells [24], and PRLX93936 has been taken for the clinical trial in treating patients with multiple myeloma (NCT01695590). The gene discussed is PTEN; the disease is non-small cell lung carcinoma.
