Sodium-dependent glucose cotransporters inhibitors (SGLT2i) have consistently demonstrated a clear renoprotective effect in multiple randomized controlled trials (RCTs), including reducing proteinuria, slowing estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) decline, and lowering the risk of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) (Perkovic et al., 2019; Heerspink et al., 2020a; Herrington et al., 2023). Here, SLC5A11 is linked to chronic kidney disease.
