In the cardiovascular system, miR-146b is not only important for cardiac and vascular development, but also plays an important role in cardiac pathogenic factors (e.g., hypertrophy and ischemia), which has been regarded as a new therapeutic target for vascular disease, and it was demonstrated that miR-146b has a very similar sensitivity and specificity to interleukin-6 in predicting AIS,[4] so that it is thought that the upregulation of miR-146b predicts a higher severity of neurological deficits in AIS patients. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and ischemia.
