BCC cells commonly arise from mutations that activate the Hedgehog (Hh) signaling pathway [4,5] whereas SCC cells are characterized by mutations in genes such as TP53 (Tumor protein P53), NOTCH1 (Neurogenic locus notch homolog protein 1), and CDKN2A (cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A) [6]. The gene discussed is CDKN2A; the disease is skin basal cell carcinoma.
