The observed increases in AKT kinase activation, transcription factors such as NF-κB, secretion of matrix metalloproteinases MMP-2 and MMP-9, and their enhanced activation, together with migration assays, support the hypothesis that fluoride compounds may promote a pro-invasive phenotype in glioblastoma multiforme cells. The gene discussed is NFKB1; the disease is glioblastoma.
