In addition to MS, NLRP3 inflammasome involvement in AD has been demonstrated both in vitro, by the ability of amyloid beta peptides to activate the inflammasome, and in vivo, in a mouse model of AD, where NLRP3 knockout mice were protected from spatial memory impairment and showed reduced Aβ plaque burden [41,96,97].
