An earlier study in 2003 found that the antiangiogenic effects of pomegranate supercritical CO2-extracted seed oil and fermented juice polyphenols involved downregulation of VEGF in some cancer cell types (MCF-7) and upregulation of the angiogenic suppressor Macrophage Migration Inhibitory Factor (MIF) in others (MDA-MB-231). The gene discussed is MIF; the disease is cancer.
