CD38 and plasma cell myeloma: Daratumumab can induce the death of myeloma cells through antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), but because CD38 is also expressed on the surface of NK cells, daratumumab treatment can induce the self-destruction of NK cells that mistakenly target CD38-expressing NK cells, which may weaken the effectiveness of ADCC-mediated targeting and the elimination of myeloma [118].
