The percentage of dead cells was significantly higher after 72 h of HRV 16 infection in untreated, infected cells when compared to untreated, uninfected control cells (-IFN-β1a/ + HRV 25.65 ± 7.36% dead cells vs. -IFN-β1a/-HRV 12.95 ± 4.58% dead cells, p = 0.012) and IFN-β1a pre-treated, HRV 16-infected cells (-IFN-β1a/ + HRV 25.65 ± 7.36% dead cells vs. + IFN-β1a/ + HRV 11.86 ± 3.85% dead cells, p = 0.005) (Fig. 1d).
