In a PD model, manipulation of astrocytes via AAV‐mediated expression of transmembrane protein 164 (TMEM164), a protein thought to be involved in ferroptosis, resulted in a reduction in the amount of neurotoxic saturated lipid release and prevented the loss of dopaminergic neurons and motor deficits (Zhang et al., 2023a). The gene discussed is TMEM164; the disease is Parkinson disease.
