Additionally, hypomethylation of the BIN1 gene at specific CpGs (26, 44, and 87) in the blood has been associated with an increased risk of LOAD (Salcedo-Tacuma et al., 2019), while hypermethylation of the PIN1 gene promoter distinguished frontotemporal dementia (FTD) from the hypomethylation observed in AD (Ferri et al., 2016).
