In mouse models of glaucoma and aged mice, the ectopic expression of the genes Oct4 (also known as Pou5f1), Sox2, and Klf4, alongside the involvement of TET1 and TET2, has been shown to restore a youthful DNA methylation pattern in RGCs, leading to vision recovery (Lu et al., 2020; Figure 5C).
