AGTR2 and Hyperkalemia: Cases of heparin-induced hyperkalemia have been reported multiple times in the literature.15,22–24 This observed hyperkalemia can be explained by the ability of heparin to downregulate angiotensin-2 receptors on zona glomerulosa in adrenal glands, resulting in lower levels of aldosterone.12 Besides case reports, observational studies and clinical trials have investigated this association, with some yielding similar results to ours, while others have reported contradictory findings.
