A study by Hausl and colleagues35 explored the association of FKBP51 in the mediobasal hypothalamic area with autophagy and metabolism. Interestingly, this study demonstrated FKBP51 overexpression protects against diet-induced obesity, while cell-type specific deletion of Fkbp5 in the hypothalamus was associated with increased body weight and obesity.35, 36 However, whole-body Fkbp5 deletions have been generally associated with improved metabolic outcomes, illustrating the tissue-specific roles of FKBP51. This evidence concerns the gene FKBP5 and obesity disorder.
