UA significantly up-regulates the expression of miR-149-5p in hepatocytes, and FGF21, a downstream target of miR-149-5p and closely related to lipid metabolism, whose deficiency can lead to hepatic steatosis, so that uric acid aggravated hepatic fat accumulation through the miR-149-5p/FGF21 axis (67). This evidence concerns the gene FGF21 and fatty liver disease.
