NFKB1 and myalgic encephalomeyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome: ME/CFS patients exhibit various metabolic changes, including the Warburg Effect (3) (production of energy through fermentation in the cytoplasm rather than in the mitochondria), a decrease in the NAD+/NADH ratio (4); activation of the NF-kB inflammation pathway (5); mitochondrial malfunction (6); reduced activation of AMPK (7); and possible increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) (8).
