Jiang et al. confirmed that in the myocardial cell membrane, EMPA can directly inhibit the activity of sodium/hydrogen exchanger 1 (the Na+/H+ exchanger1, NHE1), suppress excessive autophagy, improve ventricular remodeling, and decrease cardiac function after myocardial infarction (Li et al., 2021).
