While a beneficial prognostic effect of increased p16INK4a has been demonstrated in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) (11), alongside an association with HPV status (12), this correlation does not seem to apply to OSCC, with most authors reported no influence of p16INK4a status on survival (13, 14). This evidence concerns the gene CDKN2A and oropharynx squamous cell carcinoma.
