For example, multiple studies have reported that variants within and distal to the SPTLC3 gene had a strong relationship with hepatic lipid content,42 circulating lipids, and or lipoproteins.33–36,38,43–46 Importantly, other studies suggest a breadth of involvement of SPTLC3 in metabolic health, including T2D,47 insulin resistance,36,38,41 NAFLD,42 and cardiovascular disease.33,44,46 Despite these clues, there is no mechanistic information as to how SPTLC3 regulates metabolic processes.
